What is Meditation?

There is much documentation and evidence supporting the many natural benefits of meditating. The meditation we teach offers you the opportunity to learn to relax in new ways and explore new levels of energy and awareness using a personal mantra or advanced meditation. Our approach uses meditation to discover new uncharted inner levels of yourself. This allows you to answer all your questions by yourself - for yourself - progressing and exploring even further at your own pace.

Our meditation approach

In day-to-day life it is natural to find our thoughts racing from one thing to another in endless circles. This constant unfocused activity often feels very draining, so much so, we crave a quiet place, a refuge, - a place with some stillness and solitude away from activity. Learn meditation and you can have this relaxation and tranquility, anytime, anywhere.

The most important point to remember is that it is not the theory that holds the benefits, its not reading about how to meditate - it's the practice itself that can help you to enjoy and experience new levels of awareness, the deepest relaxation, and daily use of your vast hidden storehouse of inner potential.

Just imagine how much difference this freedom could make

Always remember - meditation is simple!

Observing the breath is a simple yet powerful form of meditation. This is where the foundations for meditation lie, and breath meditation is a good starting point for progressing to finer and deeper meditation techniques.

Try to set a time aside a regular time once or twice each day. This is going to be your time and the world can wait, it has already had your attention for 23 hours so look at your meditation as a special and important part of your day. Ensure you will not be disturbed e.g. take the phone off the hook.

Remember that you can only experience the benefits of meditation for yourself so we are trying to build in meditation as a regular part of your day. Cultivate a good habit for a change!

In a quiet room, sit comfortably. Many people can be put off meditation because they think they need to sit in an uncomfortable position to progress. What is required if possible is a straight back and this can be achieved by either sitting cross-legged on the floor with your back supported by the wall or end of the bed or even by sitting in a supportive chair.

Don't be afraid to have cushions or pillows to sit on and to support your back, knees and ankles if you need them. When you are properly supported it is easier to have deeper and more pleasurable meditations.

When you are sitting comfortably take a few deep and slow breaths, each time you exhale notice how you are starting to become more relaxed.

Gently close your eyes and gradually become aware of your breathing. As you become aware of the gentle rise and fall of your abdomen start taking a longer breath and begin counting slowly to yourself 1 2 3 4 as you inhale through your nose. Hold this breath for another count of four then slowly exhale through the mouth for another count of four. Make sure you fully exhale and gently pull in your abdomen at the end of this count. This will help to naturally give the space to breathe in for the next count of four.

Try to find a gentle rhythm that is comfortable and not a strain to maintain. You can rest the palm of your hand across your abdomen to prevent shallow upper chest breathing. This helps to get oxygen more deeply into your body, which brings more benefits and more relaxation.

Don't hold the breath with empty lungs.

Repeat this count of four for 5-10 minutes breathing in to count 1 2 3 4 hold for 1 2 3 4 and exhale for 1 2 3 4 keeping your attention focused on your breathing with relaxed awareness.

To start with 5 minutes might seem a long time and this is quite natural. Meditation is a skill and like any skill needs practice. There will be good days, not quite as good days, frustrations and joys. Keep practicing and be persistent and you will find your periods of relaxation will increase.

Inevitably you will find your mind strays but don't be disappointed just bring your attention back to your breathing. You are gently training your mind to be more under your conscious control and this is just the beginning.

The foundations are being laid and as you practice and progress your meditation will become easier and feel more natural.

Well done! You have taken the first steps

What makes our meditation different?

Unique Staged & Guided Progression

Our meditation approach is unique compared to other meditations in the fact that we offer a demonstrable and repeatable process - a step by step journey with a beginning, a middle, and an end - a staged process with progressions and signposts. Each stage culminates in greater degrees of relaxation, feelings of well-being and more and more amazing insights into the nature of the self and the universe.

Breath > Mantras > Subtle energies > Universal awareness

The process is as old as meditation itself, and is new as the moment, as the universal awareness is unchanged and unchanging.

These aided expansions of awareness are gentle, natural and permanent, balancing and enhancing our daily activity and life - empowering us with more confidence, strength and understanding.

Breath

This is where we begin - learning to harness our breathing. Our next breath is the most important action for our future existence - yet we often ignore the simplicity of consciously using our breath. Controlled and practiced breathing enables us to harness the potential of our nervous system - and hence our ability to relax and alter our state of concentration and awareness.

Breath meditation has been taught by many yoga and meditation systems and is the perfect discipline and starting point for progressing into deeper levels of relaxation.

Relaxation Mantras

The next stage of progress is the use of relaxation mantras. Mantras are the encapsulation of sound to create a desired effect within us. They are a science in their own right. A mantra is a set of syllables that have no meaning as such - but are very powerful tools to enable us to experience for the first time a deeper level of relaxation than we would normally be able to experience. A wonderful tonic for our daily stresses.

Advanced Mantras

Advanced mantras have been created to help us to relax into even deeper levels of stillness. They are available to anyone who would like to explore meditation and themselves in even more new exciting and profound ways, as the mantras are keys to greater degrees of space and insights inside. This type of mantra meditation offers the most natural and gentle way of progressing to more and more peace and relaxation, they help to safely activate the body's energy system and act as a stepping-stone towards the most advanced meditation - meditation on inner light and sound.

Advanced Meditation on Light & Sound

This is the most profound and advanced form of meditation. It enables us to witness, and meditate on, some of the finest aspects within. It offers the opportunity to take meditation to its deepest level of self-discovery and relaxation. This meditation enables us to go beyond the physical kundalini system and to explore new territory within. To be able to practice this type of meditation a preparation period using an advanced mantra (see above) is required, and lifestyle changes are encouraged.

There are 2 further stages of expansion within this advanced meditation on light & sound. Further details are available as you progress.
